Last year I listened to a podcast where a christian couple whose marriage was in the verge of crashing were advised by their therapist to try switching to an “Open marriage” as it will spice things up for them and help save their marriage.

Guess what? It’s now considered as the new cool thing in culture. One distinct characteristic of culture is its dynamic nature and it thrives on influence. That’s why some influencers promote it like it ain’t bad. You hear things like, ‘this is 21st century, grow up’ ‘expand your mind and embrace culture’ ‘Do away with the old way of doing things’ and so on.

An open marriage or relationship is one in which both partners agree that each may have sexual relations with others.

The first time I had an idea of what this was all about, sis, I couldn’t process it. Why will anyone invite multiple partners to their marriage? I think I know why, because we are in a generation that will rather turn away from the natural way of doing things than commit to the word of God concerning the new findings in culture.

Culture Changes but the word of God remains the same

It is a myth to think that your marriage will be saved by adopting an open relationship.

Last week I saw a celebrity tweet the following “Not every woman wants marriage from a relationship. Sometimes women just want to be in a relationship with someone they can have fun with, explore the world with, eat with, learn with, grow with, sleep with till they don’t want no more”

When I saw this, my ratchet mind responded immediately (I’m not there yet so sometimes I tilt between righteous and ratchet)….hahaha. I said, ’sis please speak for yourself’! Plus this description sounds like a married man to me. Seems she wants to do all the stuff married people do without commitment that comes with marriage and this is where the problem lies.

When Christ came down on earth as a human form, he was not just passive about saving us, He was committed to doing it. He understood that commitment is one quality that takes you a step farther from being selfish. If Jesus was selfish, He would have succumbed to satans’ temptation of ruling the whole world in the wilderness. It would be cool being the son of God, not committed to saving anyone and still have his own thing running on earth. How about that? But he was committed to reconcile us to God. He didn’t analyse if there was something for him in the ‘saving the world project’ drafted by his father, if there’s a promotion waiting for him or if he would really secure the bag in the process. Nah! He came down on earth, humbled himself, made himself a man of no reputation and reconciled us to God by being hanged on the Cross.

Open marriage or relationship comes with a lot of baggage. It’s not just unhealthy to your marriage but your spirit, soul and body. A Christian should not partake in such. If your sex drive is higher than that of your spouse, communicate that with your spouse and talk to a Christian therapist if need be. Today we are saying yes to the word of God and No to everything that is contrary to God’s word. You can have a loving and fun filled marriage. You can be faithful and stay happily married to one person for the rest of your life.

To anyone reading this;

There’s nothing cool about embracing an open marriage or relationship.

It’s high time you stop taking pride in the wrong things.

You don’t have to go to the ‘CULTURE’, God can make culture come to you.

You cannot influence a culture you are desperate to be a part of….Dare to be different!

You are powerful hunnie, and you don’t need a sexual relationship without direction to prove that.

We don’t have time to look like the world, we have a kingdom to build!

Love you xoxo
